Welcome Mighty Squirrel as the Official Beer of Race the State!

Mighty Squirrel is a Boston based brewing company that makes flavorful and refreshing beers for sporty, active, and health conscious beer drinkers. It is the first and only beer with 4 grams of protein!

Co-Founders Naveen Pawar and Henry Manice met as product managers at a medical device company and soon decided they wanted to start a business together someday. The idea for Mighty Squirrel came about a year later in 2011. They loved playing tennis with friends and enjoying celebratory beers afterwards, but they wanted a brew that would fit in better at the finish line. Inspired by this, they set out to create Mighty Squirrel.

All family, competitors and support crew will be able to sample Mighty Squirrel at the finish line party in Westerly! Get ready to get your protein fix and share stories about your Mighty Moments!

Thinking about Racing the State but unsure that you can do it solo? Grab your friends and divide and conquer! Race the State can be run as a 2, 3 or 5-person team. This is a great way to take on the part of the race you’re best at and get your friends to join in!

Calling all Volunteers! We’re looking for locals across Rhode Island to help us out on Race Day on August 7th! Volunteer for as few as 2.5 hours and get a sweet Race the State t-shirt AND if you get inspired by the athletes and want to sign up for next year’s race you’ll and receive 50% off your entry. Leg 1: 3.8 Mile Run–Tiverton

Leg 2: 1 Mile SUP–Fogland Beach, Tiverton

Leg 3: 12.3 Mile Run–Sandy Point Beach Portsmouth, RI to Fort Adams, Newport

Leg 4: 5.6 Mile Kayak–Fort Adams to Narragansett with a portage in Jamestown

Leg 5: 28.5 Mile Bike–Narragansett to Westerly

Race Day Info for Competitors

We will be providing a more detailed ‘Race Bible’ in the next couple of weeks to all registered competitors, however we want to call your attention to a couple of notes:

Please remember you will need to have a life jacket on both the paddle and kayak legs and you will be required to wear it. If you’re not comfortable with a vest jacket, we recommend a belt pack life jacket.
Packet pick up will be on Saturday from 11a-5p in Narrgansett at the URI Graduate School of Oceanography. If there is an extenuating circumstance that will prevent you from picking up your packet on Saturday, please contact Julianna@
Please remember that you will need to provide proof of prior paddleboard experience by way of showing us that you’ve competed in other paddleboard races or communicating with our race director about your prior SUP/prone experience.

PADDLE BOARD DIVISIONS: STAND UP AND PRONE

For 2016, we will be scoring separating the scoring for the paddle board leg into prone and stand-up. When you collect your bib on race day, you will notify us as to whether you will race stand-up or prone on race day.

SUPPORT TEAMS

Everyone competing in the race will need a support team. Because your support team is extremely valuable to your success, for 2016 we will be outfitting your support team member with a custom Race the State t-shirt!

No Kayak – No Problem – Rent!

Don’t have a kayak? Don’t worry! T he Kayak Centre is offering Race the State Competitors kayak rentals! That includes drop off at Fort Adams in Newport and pick up at the kayak leg finish in Narragansett. Give them a call at 401-295-4400 to make your reservation.
